Have you dreamed of the opportunity to study Civil Rights and Apartheid in South Africa, learn what it takes to manage a cruise ship in the Caribbean, or discover the effects of biodiversity in Vietnam? These are once in a lifetime experiences that, sadly, many students will never experience because they cannot afford it. In an attempt to ensure that students from Appalachian State University graduate with a well- rounded education, International Appalachian and the Office of International Education and Development would like to provide students with a scholarship to study abroad.

The scholarship, entitled Go Abroad: International Appalachian Scholarship is a student- created and student- maintained project. The goal of the scholarship is to give four students each year the opportunity to study in the country of their choice. Upon their return, each participant is required to give a presentation about their experience abroad at a donor luncheon, where the new recipients of the scholarship will also be announced.

This is a new project that is the first of its kind in the International Office.  The scholarship truly upholds International Appalachian’s goal to allow more Appalachian students to study abroad, and we are excited to give the first scholarship in the Fall of 2010! With the help of our alumni, friends, faculty and staff our students are afforded opportunities for scholarship and personal growth that are not covered by tuition or fees. When you think about donating to Appalachian State University this year, we ask you to please consider giving a student the opportunity to have a once in a lifetime experience.
